We’re excited to announce that adventurer, author and photographer Levison Wood is the worthy recipient of the 2020 Special Contribution Award.
Levison has worked and travelled in over 100 countries and has written seven best-selling books. He has produced six critically acclaimed documentaries which have aired around the world. He is a Major in the British Army, having served in the Parachute Regiment for 13 years.
Levison is an elected Fellow of both the Royal Geographical Society and the Explorers Club. He is an ambassador and patron for a number of charities including UNICEF, for which he is a high-profile supporter.
On hearing he was to be this year’s winner of the Special Contribution Award, Levison said, “I am hugely honoured to be given this award. It makes all the time away and work that goes into my travels worthwhile. I feel enormously privileged to be able to explore the world and I’m very glad to see that my work inspires others — both the public and especially people that work within the travel industry because I know we all share that bond of curiosity and wanderlust.”
The Special Contribution Award is awarded annually to someone who has made an extraordinary contribution to travel media. The Travel Media Awards advisory board felt that Levison’s explorations and expeditions, coupled with the writing and broadcasting of his many adventures, have had a significant impact on both the public and travel media.
The winners of the 21 Travel Media Award categories will be revealed at an online ceremony on 25 January – look out for news very soon about how you can register to attend.
