Yes, if you are aged 18+, have the right to work in the UK and demonstrate a passion for travel media. Travel Media Awards Step Up encourages applications from underrepresented backgrounds, including minority ethnic groups and those who identify as LGBTQ+.
No, the scheme is open to anyone who has an interest in the industry.
Applicants can submit their application via this link up until 23:59 on 31 January 2024. The application calls for:
- A CV
- A personal statement (max. 200 words) responding to the statement: Tell us about yourself and why you’d be right for the internship.

A creative writing task (max. 300 words) answering the question: What does travel mean to you?
The internship duration is two months, taking place in summer 2024 (July and August provisionally). Interns will spend four weeks with one company followed by four weeks with another.
Yes, you will be compensated for your work for the duration of the internship.
One month with be spent learning about public relations with either FINN Partners or Intrepid Travel. Another month will be spent learning journalism and publishing with TTG Media or APL Media.
Interns will receive six Zoom mentoring sessions (one per month) after the conclusion of the internship. These will be conducted by an industry professional to assist with career trajectory.
Candidates will be shortlisted by the Travel Media Awards team and finalists will be invited for interviews with a judging panel made up of senior staff from the partner companies. Ultimately, two candidates will be selected for internships and informed no later than May.
Interns are required to either commute into London to the place of work, or source their own accommodation. This can be funded from the internship salary. Alternatively, interns can apply for free, hosted accommodation with London-based editors through PressPad.
Step Up is a new internship programme by the Travel Media Awards driving diversity and inclusion in travel media for young people. The scheme offers a two-month paid internship in London in the summer of 2024 for two successful candidates. The interns will work at two of our partner companies for a month each and also receive six mentoring sessions (online, one per month) upon completion of this. The interns will also receive a complimentary ticket to the Travel Media Awards in London in autumn 2024.
All internships are London-based with mandatory office attendance. Some internships may offer some work from home days at their own discretion.
